Master Students
Mattia Fiore (Fall 2024)

I am a quantum engineering student. I completed my bachelor's degree at the Polytechnic of Turin before moving to Zürich to explore the latest frontiers of quantum technologies. My primary interest is in quantum optics phenomena across all frequency ranges, as well as interdisciplinary contributions to this field. I will be collaborating with Debang, Matthias, and Lenny on low-cost actuators and machine-supervised beam alignment mirror mounts.
Lennart Horn (Fall 2024)

I am a master's student in Quantum Engineering at ETH. Before, I did a bachelor's degree in physics also at ETH. In the last year, I have mostly taken classes in quantum physics, quantum information processing, and machine learning. I am looking forward to challenging myself in the QuanTech workshop in the EQE group, where we will work on machine-supervised beam alignment.
Matthias Kamm (Fall 2024)

Currently I´m in the second year of my Quantum Engineering masters. After finishing my bachelors in physics at ETH, I worked at the Pauli Drude Institut in Berlin gaining hands-on experience in the field of quantum transport. I´m looking forward to applying my knowledge during the QuanTech workshop hosted by the EQE group, tackling the challenge of automating beam control.
Debang Shi (Fall 2024)

I completed my bachelor's degree in physics from ETH Zürich, where I am now pursuing my master's in quantum engineering. My main interests lie in experimental quantum optics and the integration of machine learning-assisted techniques in quantum technologies. This semester, I will be collaborating with Mattia, Matthias, and Lenny to develop automated quantum control using low-cost actuators and machine-supervised beam alignment systems.
Gude August (Spring 2024)

I am a master's student in Quantum Engineering. After receiving my BSc in physics from the University of Oslo in Norway, I came to Zürich to learn more about quantum technologies. During my first semester at ETH, I followed courses related to both control systems and quantum information processing, which inspired me to do a semester project in EQE. I will work on programming a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to be used in the controllers.
Max Kolanz (Spring 2024)

I am in my first year in the Quantum Engineering masters. I completed my bachelor's degree in applied physics at the University of Colorado. I worked in experimental physics throughout my undergraduate degree at JILA in Boulder. I am currently working on a semester project in the EQE group involving the current supply for coils in the experiment.
Filip Mrcarica (Spring 2024)

I am a master's student in Quantum Engineering. After completing my bachelor's degree in Physics at ETH, I decided to delve deeper into the world of quantum technologies. I am excited about the opportunity to join the EQE group for a semester project focused on designing a transport scheme for neutral atoms.
Jeth Arunseangroj (Fall 2023)

After completing a BSc in Astrophysics at UCLA, and I am now a Physics MSc student at ETHZ. I am fascinated by quantum physics as it offers both fundamental understanding of the universe as well as potential real-world applications in areas like quantum information processing. To pursue my interest in quantum information, I joined EQE and now conduct theoretical research on quantum operations on dual-type atom arrays.
Qianlong He (Fall 2023)

I am a MSc Physics student at ETHz. I was in the double degrees program established by Wuhan University and Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, where I received my bachelor‘s diplomas both in Physics. Captivated by the wonder of quantum information and quantum computing, I have followed various courses related to this field during my time at ETHz. My passion for quantum technology spurs me to try more hands-on work in this rapidly evolving field. Now I am working on the optical tweezer rearrangement algorithm in the EQE group.
Liyang Zhang (Fall 2023)

I am a physics master’s student at ETH. I come from China. I did my bachelor's study at Nagoya University, where I performed my graduation research in theoretical studies on spin waves in Professor Kohno's Group. Then I took many courses on quantum science at ETH and decided to continue my study (and life) in this amusing and fast-developing field. For my master thesis at EQE Group, I am designing and simulating mainly the electrodes in the vacuum system, to control the electric field acting on neutral atoms. I like traveling, hiking, and reading Yokkiren's blog for obsolete roads, named "Yamasa Iganega" (Akitan for "why not go to the mountains").
Peter Koopmann (Spring 2023)

I am a master student in Quantum Engineering here at ETH. After I received my BSc in Physics from ETH, I started my journey into experimental quantum physics with a RnD internship in trapped ions. To get more hands-on experience, I joined the EQE group for an experiment on frequency stabilization of a 780 nm laser with a digital PID controller.
Fabian Bennati Weis (Spring 2023)

I completed by Bachelor in Physics at University of Göttingen, Germany, where I had the great opportunity to work on my thesis in the lab of Prof. Claus Ropers. In this project, we worked on using ultra-short free-electron pulses to probe a dynamical optical waveform in a microring resonator. This project triggered my great interest in quantum optics and quantum information, and I therefore continued with a Master in Physics here at ETH Zürich, where my fascination for this field keeps growing! Given my interest in QIP and quantum many-body physics, I joined the EQE team for a semester project in which I am working on laser intensity control for addressing qubits in a neutral atom experiment.
